A cable is a thick wire, or a group of wires inside a rubber or plastic covering, which carries electricity or electronic signals. It connect two or more devices, enabling the transfer of electrical signals or power from one device to the other. Cables are in use for a wide range of purposes, and each works for that purpose. Cables are in use extensively in electronic devices for power and signal circuits. There are a variety of cables available in the electrical world.
Firstly, we have the power cable which is an electrical cable, an assembly of one or more electrical conductors, usually held together with an overall sheath. The assembly is for transmission of electrical power. Power cables are use as permanent wiring within buildings, buried in the ground, run overhead, or exposed.
Secondly, we have the telephone cable which is a method of guided transmission for your telephone line. This means it acts as a physical path to transmit electromagnetic waves and carry information from point to point. This is by means of a conductive material such as copper wiring.
Thirdly, is the Coaxial cable which is in use as a transmission line for radio frequency signals. Its applications include feedlines connecting radio transmitters and receivers to their antennas, computer network ( Ethernet) connections, digital audio (S/PDIF), and distribution of cable television signals.
Fourthly, we have the VGA cable which stands for Video Graphics Array. A VGA cable is a device used to transfer video signals. It does this by acting as a link between the computer and the monitor or between the computer and the television screen. The video graphic cable comes in two types, male and female connector.
Fifthly, are the UTP (unshielded twisted Pair) cable which is a 100 ohm copper cable that consists of 2 to 1800 unshielded twisted pairs surrounded by an outer jacket. They have no metallic shield. This makes the cable small in diameter but unprotected against electrical interference. The twist helps to improve its immunity to electrical noise and EMI.
Lastly, we have the HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) cable which provides an interface between any audio/video source, such as a set-top box, DVD player, or A/V receiver and an audio and/or video monitor, such as a digital television (DTV), over a single cable. HDMI supports standard, enhanced, or high-definition video, plus multi-channel digital audio on a single cable.
